Last year, Google tested Cube on the Play Store as a new content and widget recommendation system. After months of waiting for what the Cube actually is, last night it was officially launched as Collections.
Collections in the Play Store look like an application tray on the main screen of iOS 18. Applications are grouped by category in their respective folders. More interesting is the application that has been installed in the user's device. What Collections does is learn user usage patterns and suggest what the user can do next with one click.
For example, you want to buy a shirt online by comparing prices on Lazada and Shopee - Collections already knows what shirt, what size and which application is cheaper for you to buy with one click and it will take you to the cart.
Another example is streaming applications; Collections knows you have Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video apps for example and are looking for a new movie to rent maybe Deadpool & Wolverine – if there is one that can be streamed Collections will suggest tap to watch on which app or tap to buy/rent on which app. Collections also comes with a giant widget for quick access to users directly on the device's home screen.
For now, Google Play Collections is limited to users in the United States only with Google saying they have plans to offer this feature to other countries. Let's wait together.
