Google's Social Search Experiment Through the "Notes" Feature Will End

Last November 2023, we reported that Google was experimenting with social search through the "Notes" feature. However, Google has now confirmed that they will end the experiment at the end of this month.

'Notes' is a function that allows social searches to be made on Google by allowing people to share any information in addition to seeing people's views on a web page and making it easier for users to get the context of shared content. The interface is similar to Stories which allows users to add and change text, images or stickers.

After a few months of this feature being launched as an experiment, it may not have been well received by many users thus prompting the experiment of this feature to no longer continue. However, a Google spokesperson stated that they will continue to test and experiment with features that they feel can help connect many people in addition to taking into account feedback from the "Notes" experiment to produce new and better features in the future. For users who have used the feature, they can download their shared 'notes' until the end of August using Google Takeout.
