Malaysians Want Crowdstrike and Microsoft to Pay Compensation Due to Last Week's Outage

Malaysia wants to ask Crowdstrike and Microsoft to pay damages for the disruption caused by a system problem involving 8.5 million computers worldwide last week. In Malaysia 14 companies were affected when an update provided by Crowdstrike caused BSOD problems to appear on computers using their security systems.

Among those affected are five government agencies and nine companies in the aviation, banking and medical industries. We previously reported that Air Asia and KTM were among the companies that confirmed there was a disruption in the system used by them to manage passengers.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said he had met representatives of Crowdstrike and Microsoft to ask for a full report and to ask both companies to prevent the incident from happening again. He also said the government helped the affected companies get compensation.

Today according to a report by the Parametrix Insurance company, Fortune 500 companies based in the United States lost $52 billion due to the Crowdstrike intrusion that lasted for several days. No figures were shared about the losses on local companies in the same incident.
