Micron's GDDR7 Memory Will Improve Gaming Performance By 30 Percent Compared To GDDR6 Memory

Next-generation graphics cards from AMD and NVIDIA are expected to come with the latest GDDR7 memory offerings, and Micron, a leading memory and storage chip maker, says that the memory will show a 30 percent increase in gaming performance compared to their previously developed GDDR6 memory. .

This performance improvement is reported to be in terms of increased frame rates for computer games that use common raster techniques as well as Ray-tracing, although for now, Micron has not provided any details on which computer games will show this 30 percent performance improvement.

Even so, it's not surprising. First, GDDR7 memory comes with a memory speed of 28Gbps to 32Gbps which is much faster than the GDDR6 memory offering which has a memory speed of only 20-24Gbps. Connected to a 384-bit interface, these 12 GDDR6 memories can transmit data at a rate of 1.5TB/s.

What's even more interesting is that for this GDDR7 memory, the 32Gbps memory speed offering is just the beginning. Later, with competition from companies like Samsung and SK Hynix, it would not be surprising to see GDDR7 memory with data transmission rates as fast as 40Gbps in the future.
