At the end of last June, Oppo officially launched the Reno12 series in Malaysia with the offering of two types of models, the Oppo Reno12 and Reno12 Pro. We have received this Reno12 Pro model about a month ago to test its performance. The model brought by Oppo this time offers a fresher photography experience along with generative AI support developed jointly by Oppo and MediaTek. Therefore, this article we wrote to share about the experience of using Oppo Reno12 Pro.

SCREEN
We start this review with the screen first with it being a 6.7” AMOLED FHD+ with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness level of 1200 nits. The screen panel is made of Corning Glass 7i which provides a good and durable screen usage experience. There is no problem in terms of screen display even for watching videos, playing games or browsing social media. For most uses the screen works smoothly and can detect touch well without problems such as failing to detect touch or lag time.
The bezel around the screen is seen to be even and not too thick, making the device's screen still look balanced. Next, there is also a small hole at the top of the screen that serves as a selfie camera. Overall, the screen of the device shows a good display while providing a satisfactory user experience. Interestingly, the screen of this device is also very durable as it will not easily crack or break if dropped even on a hard surface.
BIOMETRIC
Security and privacy features include a fingerprint scanner built into the bottom of the screen that works well as long as the fingers are not dirty. The face scan feature is fast enough that it can detect a face much faster before I have time to scan the fingerprint on the screen. Usually, it only takes about one to unlock.
DESIGN
The Oppo Reno12 Pro comes in three color options namely Nebula Silver, Sunset Gold and Space Brown with each showing a different back panel pattern. The model we tested is the Nebula Silver color which has a back panel pattern that looks like flowing metallic liquid. But there is no strange texture on the panel, because to the touch the panel is very flat and smooth.
This device comes with a body of 181g which when held, feels light and does not make the wrist easily feel tired when used for a long time. In addition to being light, the device's thin design (7.45mm) makes the device easy to handle in many situations.
When the screen is facing forward, the power button and volume adjustment button are on the right side of the device body and there are no buttons on the left side. The top part houses the hole for the IR emitter. While at the bottom there is a slot for a SIM card and a hole for charging and also a speaker.
On the back there are three camera bumps with the humps extending down and slightly raised. The device is also equipped with IP65 which makes it waterproof and dustproof.
USAGE & SOFTWARE
The operating system used on the device is ColorOS 14.1 based on Android 14 which provides good and smooth usage performance. The interface shown is also neat and easy to understand but there are quite a few fat applications included. We have also tried playing the premiere repeatedly on the device to see how well it performs for using the premiere in high resolution.
Overall the device can operate smoothly along with the processor chip and also the operating system used. There is absolutely no problem with time lag, even the quality of the first graphics shown also looks sharp, bright and beautiful.
A RAM Expansion system is also available which allows up to 12GB more virtual RAM to be added. The storage size on the model we tested is 512GB which we feel is large enough to allow us to download all the applications we want as well as a very sufficient storage space for photos and videos.
AI features
Because AI features are now necessary on smartphones, Oppo also offers some AI features on the Reno12 Pro as below.
AI Eraser 2.0 – Erases elements on a picture with the help of AI.
AI Clear Face – Ensures that the face in the photo taken looks clearer.
AI Best Face – This feature can change any flaws in the picture. An example is like a closed eye can be opened with the help of AI.
AI Smart Image Matting 2.0 – Photos taken can be turned into stickers automatically.
AI Studio – Generates fantasy images based on real photos captured.
AI LinkBoost – Uses AI to ensure cellular networks are optimized at all times.

Oppo Reno11 F 5G – None
Looking at the test results shown, the performance of this Oppo Reno12 Pro is quite low compared to its competitors. However, throughout the duration of the usage experience, the performance is at a good level and is not disappointing, besides there are various other advanced features provided by Oppo on its smartphone model this time.
TELEPHONY AND GPS
The quality of the 5G and WiFi network is at a good level with it also including AI features into its network coverage system. The included AI LinkBoost feature makes the line connection while making calls smooth along with the accurate navigation system. This feature can also detect if we enter or exit the elevator so it will quickly reconnect the network.
CAMERA
The Oppo Reno12 Pro camera is equipped with 3 rear camera lenses that are quite good. Among them is a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto camera and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. Overall, the photos captured using the Oppo Reno12 Pro camera are good with bright, sharp colors.
But the results of night mode photos are a little disappointing with the results of photos that are too soft, faded colors with details that are not awake. There is also an error in the additional zoom image results when using the digital zoom function.
As for the zoom feature, it can reach up to 5X zoom and the digital zoom can reach up to 20X zoom. The result of zooming up to 5X shows the result of a still sharp image with preserved detail but when maximizing the zoom feature up to 20X, the result of the image is seen to no longer maintain its detail and the color also fades.
Coupled with some AI features available in the camera system and photo editing makes the experience of using the device for photography purposes quite satisfactory. Among the AI features available are AI Eraser 2.0 and AI Clear Face which allows any unwanted objects in the picture to be easily deleted and can change the face pictures taken in groups to be clearer and not blurred. In addition, there are various other AI features available such as AI Image Matting and AI Portrait.
The results of portrait photos using this camera also provide beautiful portrait photos with sharp details. Its portrait feature can distinguish between the subject and the background well without affecting the result and quality of the image. The device's camera is also capable of recording 4K video using the rear camera as well as the front camera.
BATTERY
Oppo Reno12 Pro has a battery capacity of 5000 mAh and supports SUPERVOOC 80W charging. Throughout the period of use, the battery can be charged quite quickly with it only taking about 50 minutes to fully charge from 1% to 100%.
Then, its large capacity makes the battery life last all day in normal use such as browsing social media, watching videos and playing games several times a day but not in extreme forms of use. In other words, I only need to charge the device once in a day and sometimes after two days.
AUDIO
The audio listening experience on the device is good as it has a stereo speaker that provides immersive sound when listening to music and watching videos. However, there is no 3.5mm audio jack available on any part of the device's body making it only support the use of wired earphones for a more personal audio listening experience.
