PETRONAS Will Open Malaysia's First Commercial Hybrid Super Station

In line with the country's goal of lowering carbon soon, the first Super Hybrid Station on the national highway will be built through a collaboration between PLUS Malaysia and Petronas Dagangan Berhad.

This agreement will see the station provide the facility of a large-scale petrol, diesel and electric vehicle (EV) fast charging station. For the initial stage, the Klang Valley will be the pilot location of the PETRONAS hybrid station. The step taken by PETRONAS is the same as the German government which announced that existing fossil fuel stations need to be modified to offer EV charging.

Overall, this collaboration will breathe new life into the concept of gas stations in the country by integrating various services for ICE and EV vehicles. As we reported last week, the lack of charging stations has nearly half of EV owners in the United States and Australia wanting to switch back to fossil fuel vehicles. In order to avoid similar issues affecting local EV owners, the introduction of hybrid stations is a very reasonable step.
