A few months ago, Proton took over Standard Notes, a note-taking service that focuses on privacy. This is in line with the Proton brand which offers Proton Mail, Proton Drive and Proton VPN which also have the same focus. Recently, Proton introduced a competitor to Microsoft Word and Google Docs available in Proton Drive, which is Proton Docs.
Like any document creation application and service, Proton Docs allows users to do many of the same things. This includes having one document handled by many people. The uniqueness of Proton Docs is that all documents are encrypted, each file is stored on a Swiss server, Proton will not track and cannot read all files including details such as name or metadata.
According to Proton, their Docs were developed by taking inspiration from Standard Notes, which means write with privacy, share and invite anyone, collaborate in real time, see who is opening and editing files, leave comments and reply to comments and easily import and export files. .
Proton Docs is a free service with the condition that those who want to use it need to register a Proton Drive account. Existing users will receive access to this feature today, while new users can access Proton Docs within days of registration.
