Proton e.MAS7 May Be Based on Geely Galaxy E5

Proton will start marketing their first battery-powered electric vehicle (EV) under the e.MAS brand. There are rumors saying that the rumored car using the e.MAS7 name will start to be marketed next December. Now according to the Nextrift report, it is very likely that the e.MAS7 will be based on the Geely Galaxy E5.

This is based on a WeChat message by the CEO of Proton New Energy Technology, Zhang Qiang, who gave the impression that it is based on the Geely vehicle that was launched in China last May and will go to the global market in early August.

Geely Galaxy E5. is an SUV equipped with an electric motor with a power of 218 PS with which it can reach a maximum speed of 175 kmh. The two battery options offered provide a range of 440 km and 530 km according to CLTC standards. In China, the selling price of the Galaxy E5 starts at around RM 80,000.

Proton has already announced their commitment to launch one new energy vehicle (NEV) every year during the launch of the X90 last year. Proton's entry into the EV arena is highly anticipated along with Perodua in the hope that they can offer EVs at a more affordable price. All EVs in the local market are sold at prices above RM100,000 which is beyond the means of most consumers.
