Little by little, Proton imitates what Google offers. First they took over Standard Notes to compete with Keep, then they launched Proton Docs to compete with Google Docs and most recently they launched their own generative AI feature to help write emails in Proton Mail like Gmail.
This AI feature is a Proton Scribe built based on the Mistral 7b model. This AI feature will also be made open source under the GPL-3.0 license for easy security and privacy audits. Yes, since Proton is a 100% privacy and security company, Proton Scribe will not use user data to train and process their AI features. Instead the user has to download it once. If the device is not that fast, the option of processing with Proton's private server is also offered.
Proton said that the AI writing email feature will not be contextual or personalized but users are still free to edit the email that has been generated before sending. Usage is also simple with a text prompt and press the glowing pencil icon to start generating. Some other features are also added to make the email more palatable such as changing the tone of the language to a more relaxed one, proofreading, shortening the email or making it longer.
For now Proton Scribe will only be offered in Proton Mail but if usage is high it may be expanded to other Proton services. Are you a Proton service user and will use Scribe?
