Realme 13 Pro+ 5G – The Experience of Trying New Features on the Device's Camera

The Realme 13 Pro 5G series will be launched with a focus on the camera. Realme calls it their 'First Professional AI Camera Phone' which integrates AI in photography for the purpose of producing more interesting pictures. Having the opportunity to participate in the Realme AI Imaging Media Preview event that took place in Bangkok on July 3 to 6, 2024 provided an interesting experience. It starts with sharing the latest innovations that make it possible to revolutionize mobile photography for the better.

The main focus is of course on how AI is able to change the 'game' in mobile photography and further open up a space that can be easily accessed by everyone. Then followed by a little sharing about the new Realme 13 Pro 5G series device that is scheduled to arrive around this month. In this event we were also given the opportunity to try new features on the device's camera but it was a little limited since it was not yet fully ready to use. The same goes for the final design and finish of the device, which has yet to be confirmed for now.

Collaboration Between Realme And Sony

Realme announced a collaboration with Sony Semiconductor Solutions for the development of the new LYT-701 sensor that will be used on the Realme 13 Pro 5G series. The main purpose of this collaboration is to revolutionize mobile photography by providing both advanced hardware and camera features that integrate AI. At the same time improving the photography experience that allows users to see the world of mobile photography from a different perspective.

For example, situations with low lighting such as dusk and night can also display a clear image while maintaining proper detail. In addition, this new phone is also equipped with a periscope telephoto camera with a Sony LYT-600 sensor that supports 3X optical zoom and OIS. The iyu sensor is said to be capable of producing exceptional image quality in a variety of scenarios including low-light situations.

New Imaging Technology HYPERIMAGE+

The situation improves when it is paired with Realme's new imaging technology called HYPERIMAGE+. In theory, the technology uses a three-layer architecture designed to improve the mobile photography experience. The first layer focuses on the main sensor which incorporates various lenses including periscope and wide-angle. This combination is said to significantly improve image clarity and detail.

The second layer utilizes advanced algorithms specifically designed to process image data in real time to improve overall visual quality. This includes better color and dynamic range then delivers quality and clear results straight from a smartphone. The final layer is a cloud-based editing tool that uses AI for ease of editing directly from the device without the need for software downloads.

AI Function On Device Camera

There are also AI-based features available that are not only believed to be able to improve the photography experience to a better level. In fact, it contributes to achieving a balance between quality image processing and optimizing it to be more visually appealing. The following are the functions provided:

AI HyperRAW Algorithm – A function capable of processing image data in the RAW domain further improves image clarity and dynamic range to capture pure light and shadow. This means that the resulting image can have a balanced dynamic range and look more detailed, which is close to the view of the human eye in the real world. This level of detail may not be perfect, but it's still a minimal noise level.

AI Pure Bokeh & AI Natural Skin Tone – AI Pure Bokeh allows the device's camera to identify various elements in the current scene including the subject itself. Then utilize AI to separate between the subject and the background well. Then produce realistic cinematic portraits in seconds. When combined with AI Natural Skin Tone, it helps enhance the natural appearance of various skin tones using on-device artificial intelligence.

AI Ultra Clarity – A cloud-based image editing tool that can improve the quality to become sharper and clearer. In theory, it can improve the quality of low-resolution images. It includes important elements such as color, clarity and others. The color reproduction is also pleasing to the eye but becomes too saturated in some situations, especially involving bright colors such as red.

AI Smart Removal – This allows users to delete or remove unwanted objects from photos with the help of AI. This feature resembles Magic Eraser on Google devices and Photo Assist offered by Samsung. There are two ways of erasing provided which is Smart Lasso which can remove unwanted objects by just making a circle around them. With Paint Over, you can replace the selected object with another. Both features require an internet connection and removing objects with Smart Lasso is easier in most situations.

AI Group Enhance – It is suitable for group selfies. By leveraging AI, the device's camera can recognize more than two subjects in a single frame and activate the feature automatically.

Realme 13 Pro+ 5G Image Results

Also complementing the Realme 13 Pro 5G series is the High Resolution Camera Certification from TÜV Rheinland for exceptional image clarity in various lighting conditions. The series has been confirmed to arrive around July but has not been detailed about the date and internal hardware.
