Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 has been officially launched just now as their most powerful folding screen device ever with several new artificial intelligence (AI) features. The biggest changes can be seen in the design of the body and the screen which is now more boxy.
At a glance from the front, the Z Fold6 has a similar design to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Not only that, the device is now shorter and with a weight of 239 grams, it is only 7 grams heavier than a Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The external screen is now a larger 6.3″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz compared to last year’s 6.2″. This is because the screen is now getting wider to make it easier to use the device with just one hand. The inner screen is still 7.6″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz but the physical width is now 2mm wider than the Z Fold5.
S Pen support is still provided but only for the internal screen and there is still no stylus storage built into the body. However, the body of the device now passes the IP48 dust and water proof standard.
The device is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chip, equipped with 12GB RAM memory, up to 1TB storage, and a 4400 mAh battery that only supports 25W charging, which is quite slow for a 2024 flagship device.
The main camera consists of a 50MP wide-angle lens matched to a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 10MP telephoto lens that supports 3X optical zoom. The external selfie camera is 10MP while the internal one is still 4MP which is hidden under the screen. The battery size and all the camera sensors used by the Z Fold6 are recycled from the Z Fold5.
Unique to this year's model is the special Galaxy AI feature for foldable screen devices. In Interpreter mode, the external screen can display the translated conversation in real time. Next, Sketch to Image turns sketches using the S Pen into real drawings with the help of AI.
Portrait Studio, on the other hand, transforms a face image into a 3D cartoon, sketch or watercolor painting. This can then be used as a personal avatar on social media. This mode also allows the user to add objects in the captured image. Based on the sketch of the hat on the head, a variety of realistic-looking hats can be generated without the user doing manual editing.
Composer mode is also introduced to help writing. There are three options which are Email, Social Media and Comment. The appropriate text will be generated by Galaxy AI if the user does not want to write a long email that needs to be sent, for example. Finally, Circle to Search is improved with the ability to answer math questions.
All these features are provided through the OneUI 6.1.1 operating system which is based on Android 14. Samsung says some of these new features will also be provided to existing devices depending on the capabilities of the processor chip used. Like the Galaxy S24 series, the Galaxy Z Fold6 will receive support for operating system updates and security patches for seven years.
In Malaysia the sales price of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is as below with pre-orders can be done now while the open sale starts on 24 July. The colors offered are Silver Shadow, Pink and Navy. There are also Crafted Black, and White color options but these are only offered through online purchase.
