Samsung Releases Solid-State Battery Over 900KM With 9-Minute Charge

Samsung SDI started producing solid-state batteries that have the capacity to travel up to 965km (600 miles) that can be recharged in 9 minutes and are also guaranteed for 20 years. These batteries will be used in premium electric vehicles (EV) first because of their high cost.

According to The Elec report, Samsung has been offering samples of these solid-state batteries to EV manufacturers for the past six months. Solid-state batteries have advantages over Li-Ion batteries with liquid electrolytes. It has higher power capacity density, lower fire risk and lighter weight.

For those looking forward to using these solid-state batteries, they will have to wait until 2027 when mass production begins by Samsung. Other battery manufacturers such as CATL previously said they would only start mass production in 2030.
