Autism comes from the Greek word 'autos' which means self because the patient seems to live in his own world. There are two classifications given which are moderate and severe and there is still no medicine that can treat it. But researchers from the University of Maryland have published their success in reversing severe autism in a pair of twins, The Telegraph reports.
The twins, whose identities have not been revealed, were diagnosed with autism at the age of 20 months. Through a program specially created for them, one of the twins with a score of 43 out of 180 marks in the Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist test in March 2022 is now only 2nd in October 2023. While his twin managed to reduce the score from 76 to 32 in the same period of time.
The program consists of behavioral analysis, speech therapy, and strict dietary control to avoid any inflammation. Their diet is casein-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, no artificial colors or dyes, zero ultra-processed foods and is completely organic. Daily supplements for omega-3 fatty acids, multivitamins, vitamin D, carnitine, etc. are also given.
Researchers do not say a cure for autism has been found. In because of the successful reversal of different autisms in two individuals placed under the same program.
The approach given is focused on following a holistic understanding of the individual needs of each autistic child, exploring the causes of their occurrence and personalized support according to the patient.
