We can no longer escape the era of artificial intelligence (AI) this year. Phones, tablets and now computers are all being marketed with new AI capabilities through Copilot+ PC and Apple Intelligence. Also noticed is that new laptops with AI chips sell for higher prices than those without the same features. In a survey conducted by TechPowerUp, over 80% of respondents said they would not want to pay more for hardware with AI capabilities.
Among the answers given is that AI features such as Copilot+ PC are still not considered necessary by users. So why should they pay more for unused features. There are also those who say that AI has not yet reached the capabilities that make it necessary to use it. They will wait for it to get better before buying hardware that supports it.
The first wave of PCs with AI capabilities faced issues around privacy. This causes the advertised Recall feature for Copilot+ PC to not be provided as it may cause data leakage.
More worrying for buyers is whether their hardware will expire too quickly. It can already be seen that the AI PC launched earlier this year cannot use the Copilot+ PC feature due to the insufficiently powerful NPU.
