Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming is now quoted as saying the government is considering exempting local authority parking fees (PBT), specifically for electric vehicles. This move is expected to further increase the rate of electric car use, especially in cities.
At the moment, the ministry is discussing with several local municipalities in further discussion regarding this proposal. This proposal is in the process of consideration, an extension of the government's announcement that it will soon introduce special plates for electric vehicles.
Previously, several initiatives have been announced to encourage the use of electric vehicles in Malaysia, including a reduction in road tax for electric vehicles up to 85% effective 2026. According to government data, there are around 41,158 electric vehicles that have been registered since the year 2000 in Malaysia.
