Since the first generation, Google Chromecast has come in the form of a dongle. Starting with a direct connection to the HDMI port on the back of the TV and then changing to having a soft cable makes it easy to install the dongle in tight spaces. This morning 9 to 5 Google published a picture of the new Google Chromecast and it's no longer a dongle.
Instead it's just like the Apple TV box in that it sits on a tabletop with an HMDI cable connected to the back. Even the product name has been changed to Google TV Streamer without any Chromecast branding.
The shape is still oval but there are feet on the bottom to allow it to lay flat. The remote friend tool also received a change as the audio adjustment button is now at the top instead of on the right side.
The configuration of other buttons is still the same as Chromecast with Google TV, which is a circular directional button and two quick shortcut buttons for YouTube and Netflix. It is highly likely that the Google TV Streamer will be launched during the Made by Google special event on August 13 next along with the Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
