TM and Nxera Build a Sustainable Data Center in Iskandar Puteri Johor

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Nxera – a subsidiary of Singtel, today held a ground-breaking event for their data center to be developed in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. This groundbreaking event marks the joint commitment of the two companies to drive the growth of Malaysia's digital economy and one of the preparations for a strong digital infrastructure for the future.

The new data center campus is expected to be completed and commercially operational in 2026. It will be built using maximum energy efficiency and sustainability technology in accordance with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.

Compliance with LEED standards is necessary because one of the hotly debated issues in data centers today is the high consumption of power and water for cooling. When completed, this data center will use 64MW but can be expanded to 200MW if needed in the future.

This kind of development also coincides with the government's efforts to drive the digital economy and the desire to make Malaysia a hub for industrial growth, AI development and innovation in the future. The year 2024 is the year of the data center and AI for the state of Johor which received major investment not only from Nxera but also NVIDIA, and Bytedance.
