Video Game Action And Voice Actors Strike Over AI Usage Issues

Last year Hollywood actors and writers who are members of the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) went on strike for 118 days to ensure that their likenesses and work were not used to train artificial intelligence (AI). The strike was only relieved after the Alliance of Film and Television Producers (AMPTP) agreed to several demands such as providing protection for intellectual copyright and image rights.

Today voice and motion capture actors who are members of SAG-AFTRA announced a strike against video game companies such as Activision, Blindlight, Disney Character Voices, Electronic Arts, Insomniac Games, Take 2, VoiceWorks Production and WB Games. This is because an agreement on the use of AI has failed to be agreed despite discussions having been held for more than 18 months.

The decision to strike was approved by 98.32% of members who voted. As a result of this strike, developments such as GTA 6 are among those that will be affected. The game is scheduled to go on sale in the fall of 2025.
