Website Showing Flooded Areas In Malaysia To Be Launched Later This Year

The issue of flooding is not a new issue in the country, but its effects are seen to continue to cause great losses to a number of residents in Malaysia - especially for those who face the problem of flooding in residential locations.

So to ensure that this situation does not affect users, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) announced that a portal displaying maps of flood events will be launched and accessible to the public from the end of 2024.

This portal according to PETRA in the Dewan Rakyat's oral answer - is a continuation of the development of the flood incident map sharing portal that has been developed under the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) Malaysia.

To ensure the sharing of this map can be used by all levels of society - engagement sessions with representatives of the state government, federal agencies, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) and private agencies have already been held starting in 2023.

All these parties are informed that they have expressed positive feedback on the sharing of information and it is expected to be realized by the end of this year. Through that arrangement, it will simultaneously help users, especially prospective home buyers, to avoid buying houses that are at risk of flooding in the future.
