Xiaomi has already introduced their electric car this year, and started selling it in the Chinese market – thus showing the high demand among consumers. Touching on it, recently Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi shared the story behind the development of the electric car.
According to Lei Jun, in 2021, they are worried about the trade barriers by the United States, at the same time making them explore a new business, which is the development of fully electric cars.
As many are aware, in 2021, the United States began labeling Xiaomi as a company owned by the "Chinese communist army", thus leading to the potential for it to be subject to trade barriers. At that time, Xiaomi took the first step in bringing the case to court, and won the case, simultaneously overcoming the trade barriers of the United States.
Due to the incident, Lei Jun has started steps in exploring new businesses that reduce the impact if Xiaomi is barred from trading – as it is against Huawei.
Today, Xiaomi still continues to compete healthy in the smartphone arena, but has started development of HyperOS as their dedicated operating system, and made some changes to the company's operating methods. For now, it is not yet known when Xiaomi will start marketing their vehicles globally.
