California Driver's License And ID Can Now Be Linked To Apple And Google Wallet

Apple Wallet and Google Wallet are two digital wallet applications that allow users to link cards such as debit, credit, discount cards and so on to their smart devices, to facilitate payment transactions through the device only.

The government of California in the United States has announced that citizens of the state can now link their ID, along with their driver's license to Apple Wallet and recently also Google Wallet.

California now joins other states in the United States such as Arizona, Maryland, Colorado, Georgia and Ohio by now featuring support for linking physical licenses to digital wallet applications.

This matter is also a continuation of the earlier announcement by the Department of Motor Vehicles in California which has launched their own application that displays driver's license and vehicle registration digitally, similar to what is offered through the MyJPJ application in Malaysia.

However, for Californians, they are still required to carry their license and physical ID with them. This ID link to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet is to facilitate identification during screening by the TSA at the airport and so on.

It is quite interesting to see if the JPJ and JPN will also act to allow Malaysians' vehicle licenses and identity cards to be linked to these two digital wallets to make it easier for people to carry identification through their devices only.
