MCMC has today published details regarding the Regulatory Framework for Social Media which will require social media platforms with over 8 million users to register and obtain a license in Malaysia before operating.
Touching on this, the Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil informed that the licensing and regulatory framework in question is for social media platforms and does not involve users of social media platforms.
Users do not need to obtain any license to use these platforms. This is explained because there are still some users who are confused and think that individual users need to get a license to use social media.
In parallel with the introduction of details for this Regulatory Framework for Social Media, SKMM will also hold engagement sessions with various parties including representatives of social media platforms to discuss various matters, including actions due to failure to have a license.
