Fahmi Fadzil, the Minister of Communications has now informed which various social media and internet messaging service providers have expressed their willingness to be licensed. This matter was shared after a meeting and engagement session with several related service providers in Singapore recently.
However, so far no one has applied for a social media license yet. This matter may already be known, considering that this matter was only officially announced on August 1, 2024.
Previously, the government has announced the Social Media Services Regulatory Framework, which will come into force from 1 January 2025. Social media services and also messaging services with over 8 million active users will be required to register for this licence.
