Google Meet On Chrome Will Automatically Switch To PIP Mode When Switching Tabs

Who among the our readers joins a meeting via Google Meet, but does not look at the camera and is fully focused because they are busy with other tasks? Most recently, Google wants all Meet users not to be distracted during meetings because when Meet will always follow users if they use it in Chrome.

The new update is when users use Meet in Chrome, then switch tabs to do other tasks or stream video – the active teleconference session will switch to PiP (Picture-in-Picture) or picture-in-picture mode. It will be a small floating window displaying the latest content such as screen sharing, how many users are still joining and who is currently talking.

This feature is being rolled out to users starting August 26, in stages until September 10, 2024.
