Google Pulls AI Ads At Olympics After Criticism

This year seems to be a trend, giant tech companies release ads that upset a lot of people and then the ads are pulled. Apple alone has been twice, with the first time claiming that their ad insulted creative people who use physical devices and then the second time hurt the feelings of Thai people. Most recently, it was Google's turn to be criticized for its AI ads broadcast in the United States during the Olympics.

The ad aired on the NBCU network in the United States and continued to be criticized by the public. Google is accused of promoting a lazy and disgusting method of writing letters to one's sports idol. In this advertisement;

"A father helped his son write a letter to Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, a sprinter competing in the 2024 Olympics. He asked Google Gemini to help write a letter that his son was very inspired by Sydney and that his daughter plans to break Sydney's world record one day."

Due to the criticism of many people, this ad has been stopped broadcasting. Google stated that this ad before being published was tested first and received a good response. Generative AI is a tool that helps enhance user creativity rather than a replacement.

What do you think of the generative AI feature in writing letters for idols? Would you, if a father want to use AI to help your child?
