Almost three years ago, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas VR was being developed for the Meta Quest 2 AR headset. Since the announcement there has been no news on the stage of development and when it will be playable. According to a report by IGN, the development of the fifth game in the GTA series has been stopped by Meta.
This is to focus on other projects that are being developed. GTA: San Andreas VR was announced when Meta was still trying to popularize their metacity world. But now the focus of Meta and more importantly Zuckerberg has shifted to the development of AI models like Llama.
In fact, the Oculus Studio team as well as some VR game development studios such as Ready at Dawn have been closed because the demand for games like this is not that high. Apple Vision Pro which before the launch was said to save the VR/AR device market is also now recording declining sales because it has no reason to use it every day.
