Infineon Invests Another RM34 Billion To Expand Facilities In Kulim

German semiconductor company Infineon Technologies AG announced that they will invest an additional €5 billion (~RM 24.5 billion) in their manufacturing facility in Kulim, Kedah. This is to develop the third phase Kulim 3 facility which will be the largest 200-mm silicon carbide production facility in the world. Previously in August last year, Infineon announced an investment of €2 billion (~RM 9.79) for the Kulim 3 phase two facility.

A total of 4,000 high-value job opportunities will be created when all three phases are completed. Phase 1 created 900 jobs, phase 2 created 600 jobs and the remaining 2500 through the third phase.

This year Malaysia has witnessed an encouraging growth. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, the semiconductor industry attracted investments amounting to RM34.3 billion from 34 projects, as well as creating 6221 new jobs. This development is in line with the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), which has set a target of attracting at least RM500 billion of investment for the semiconductor industry in the first phase of the plan.
