For years, the grid display on Instagram has been in the form of a box or a 1:1 ratio with three strips of images. In the future it may change as people get used to vertical content sharing, be it 4×5 for photos or 9:16 for videos.
Instagram has recently tested a vertical grid display with still limited to 3 columns of images. Among the reasons for changing the grid display is that they feel guilty of cropping the content into a box shape after the user has laboriously edited a photo or video. Then Adam Mosseri as the head of Instagram wanted to change this display to be more suitable with the content of today.
This will bother many users, especially those who like to decorate their profiles with a collage of 9 pictures or three pictures in a row. Two years ago, it was leaked that Instagram was testing two different display modes that users could switch between. Anyway, this vertical grid display was only tested with a small group of users to gather feedback. Do you agree with this change if it becomes permanent?
