Lenovo Launches Laptop Powered by Two Different CPUs – Coming to the Malaysian Market

Typically, a computer will only be powered by one processing chip. When talking about a computer with several different CPUs, it is usually for a server machine class computer or a supercomputer that is not a consumer class computer.

But that's what Lenovo has just launched, which has just started selling the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid specifically for the Chinese market. It comes with a 2-in-1 design which is not something unique in itself, but it comes with two CPUs inside.

One is the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processing chip that is responsible for powering the Microsoft Windows 11 operating system, and the other is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processing chip that powers the Android operating system.

In terms of display, this laptop (and tablet) is equipped with a 14.0-inch OLED screen display with 2.8K resolution. It is also loaded with two batteries, 38Whr on the tablet side and 75Whr on the keyboard side.

If you are wondering how a hybrid laptop comes with two CPUs at once, the answer is that these two CPUs are loaded in different frames. The Qualcomm CPU is loaded in the display/tablet part of this laptop, while the Intel processing chip is loaded in the keyboard part, just like a normal laptop.

The uniqueness of ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is seen in its ability to switch operating systems quickly and easily. As a tablet, it will use the Android operating system, and when attached to the keyboard, it can function as a Microsoft Windows 11 laptop.

Not only that, this laptop also comes with two different specifications. The tablet part is equipped with 12GB of LPDDR5X memory and has a built-in UFS 3.1 storage of 256GB. The keyboard part that contains the Intel CPU has 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and 1TB of SSD PCie 4.0 storage.

Lenovo will only sell this ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid laptop in the Chinese market for now, although it was initially shown during the CES 2024 event in Las Vegas. A quick search on Lenovo Malaysia's website shows that it will be entering the local market soon.
