In the Decoder podcast by The Verge, Nilay Patel interviewed Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber. Hanneke Faber says the Logitech team in Ireland has developed a concept product, a heavier-than-usual mouse to buy once and use forever. After many media outlets reported this, Logitech continued to be criticized.
Recently The Verge reported that Logitech had issued a statement, because people had misunderstood the context of the interview. This mouse is just an idea not a real product and Logitech has absolutely no plans to offer the mouse to customers who need a subscription to receive support.
It doesn't matter whether a prototype or a concept product has been developed or the idea is considered because people are tired of everything be it gadgets, digital services, insurance, health and more all require subscription. That is already an important commitment, then Logitech, a brand trusted by many, has the heart to consider a mouse that wants to be made another commitment to users, it makes many disappointed.
In The Verge's interview with Faber, this mouse will be guaranteed with software updates that will be supported via subscription or perhaps it can be recycled to receive a replacement mouse. Logitech also compared the idea of a mouse to this subscription as if a user were buying a Rolex watch.
