The Semiconductor Industry is one of the main contributors to the Malaysian economy. In fact, what is more important is that Malaysia is recognized as the sixth largest exporter of semiconductors in the world with more than decades of experience and Penang is a global focus.
The industry is also expected to continue to improve but requires continuous and gradual efforts to achieve the desired goal. One of the initiatives provided is the establishment of the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park which is a hub for semiconductor chip manufacturers with the aim of producing more engineers and designers who specialize in the field.
Located in the Puchong Financial Corporate Center (PFCC), this hub has an area of 60,000 square feet with a three-storey building containing various spaces such as manager's room, mechanical and electrical (M&E) room, workspace and pantry.
This location selection process has also taken into account several key factors important to semiconductor companies such as size, energy capacity, building status, office equipment, potential for future expansion, and public transportation accessibility.
Its strategic location close to the nation's capital Kuala Lumpur also allows it to be a prime destination for semiconductor companies then offers unparalleled opportunities for collaboration and growth.
The hub is also designed to house approximately 400 to 600 engineers from a group of leading local and international IC design companies. In addition to receiving strong support from several partners such as BlueChip VC, ARM Holdings, Cadence Design System, Synopsys, Siemens EDA, Keysight and Shenzhen Semiconductor Association.
In the meantime, Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park is also actively recruiting qualified employees in the fields of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, and Computer Science with an average starting salary that can reach RM7,000. In addition to hiring experienced engineers who are believed to be able to help further develop the sector.
Sharing the next plan and direction, Cyberjaya is said to be the next location for the establishment of the second Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park. There is no information shared at this time regarding the process or the current development of the matter.
But the selection of the location felt interesting considering that Cyberjaya has now developed as a thriving technology hub. In addition to being fully equipped with the infrastructure, resources and many other key ingredients needed to create an attractive technology ecosystem.
