Meta has canceled a premium headset designed to compete directly with the Apple Vision Pro, The Information reports. The headset, codenamed La Jolla, has been in development since November last year using the code name La Jolla and is due to launch as the Meta Quest Pro 2 in 2027.
According to the original plan, La Jolla is a headset with a micro-OLED screen and supports Codec Avatars with a target selling price of around $1000 a pair. Why it was canceled is unknown at this time but it may be because the market for MR headsets is not very encouraging right now. Apple Vision Pro sales which were initially high have started to decline because not many interesting things can be done even though the selling price reaches RM16,000 a pair.
In the same report, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth through his Threads account said, the decision to cancel a product in development is normal in a company and this is not a big issue. But it can be seen in the last two years that Mark Zuckerberg began to focus on AI and no longer dreamed of becoming a major player in the metacity market.
