Micron Launches World's Fastest Data Center SSD Up to 15 GB/s

Micron Technology today launched the SSD 9550 which is the world's fastest data center SSD for managing critical workloads such as AI. This SSD provides a sequential data read speed of 14.0 GB/s and a sequential data write speed of 10 GB/s which provides up to 67% better performance than competing products.

To achieve this speed, the PCIe Gen5 standard was used. The Micron SSD 9550 is available in capacities ranging from 3.2TB to 30.72TB in U.2, E1.S, and E3.S design factors. In addition to having fast data transfer rates, the Micron SSD 9550 is also designed to reduce energy consumption in data centers. For example SSD energy reduction of up to 81% in the NVIDIA Magnum IO GPUDirect Storage system and up to 21% in Llama LLM training tuned using Microsoft DeepSpeed.

So far the Micron SSD 9550 has been confirmed to be compatible for use with EPYC-based AMD chips as well as Intel Xeon Gen-4, Intel Xeon Gen-5, Intel Xeon Gen-6 chips.
