The Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil has now shared Malaysia's efforts to license social media platforms so that the platforms are more responsible in receiving the attention of several countries, and also expressed interest in following the same steps. Among those who have already contacted the MCMC regarding this matter is the UK communications regulatory body, Ofcom.

The body concerned has contacted the MCMC to find out more about the implementation method of the social media and messaging platform licensing initiative. In addition, it was also shared that the Singapore side also asked about the licensing process.

The Minister of Communications also stated that in the future when Malaysia chairs ASEAN 2025, more countries will want to know the implementation method and achievements. Malaysia aims to enforce this licensing process from 1 January 2025.

Previously, it has also been shared where several social media platforms that met the ministry have expressed positive feedback regarding the implementation of this licensing. This licensing step is for social media platforms to be more responsible in content management, while also ensuring that they do not violate national laws.
