You may know Sony and Nintendo as two video game console manufacturers that are competitors with each other. But did you know that these two companies once worked together to develop a prototype game console called the Nintendo PlayStation Super NES CD-ROM.
In the late 1980s, Sony and Nintendo collaborated to develop an additional accessory for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) console that added the ability to read Sony's Super Disc compact discs.
Although 200 prototypes of these console accessories were developed, unfortunately they were never marketed, and thus the idea of the Nintendo PlayStation console was buried.
Earlier this year, a Nintendo PlayStation console was successfully auctioned by Heritage Auctions at a value of $350 thousand (~RM1.5 million). Recently, it seems that the game controller for the console has also been auctioned by the same company at a value of $35 thousand (~RM150 thousand).
This is because the controller is still in very good condition and can still be used when connected to the Nintendo PlayStation console. It appears to come with the same Super NES controller design, but has the Sony PlayStation label on the face of the controller.
If you don't know, the Sony PlayStation game console went on sale in 1994, a few years after the Nintendo PlayStation console prototype failed to be marketed by these two companies.
