NVIDIA Blackwell Chip Production Delayed Due to Design Issues

The Blackwell AI chip announced last March by NVIDIA has been delayed according to a report by The Information. NVIDIA contacted Microsoft, Meta and Google and several other companies that their orders would be delayed by at least three months due to issues with the chip design.

Because of the changes made to the Blackwell, issues with power delivery, overheating, cooling and leaks in the liquid cooling system have been detected. Therefore a redesign is being done so that customers will not experience the same issue when they start using the same chip in their data center later.

In Malaysia, the YTL data center supercomputer located in Johor was the first to be confirmed to use Blackwell chips. The demand for Blackwell chips is high because all the world's major technology companies need the fastest chips to gain an edge in the race to build the latest AI models in the market.
