Nvidia graphics cards are modified with larger memory - used for AI farms

In China, renovating the NVIDIA graphics card for use in the data center is not something new. Among the ways used by technology companies to overcome the economic sanctions imposed by the US government is to buy consumer graphics cards and renovate them with greater memory.

Recently, it has been reported by Chinese media that there are data centers that have begun to "rent" these modified graphics cards, including the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 48GB and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Super 32GB.

These graphics cards appear to be "rented" in a data center in China, and are usually used for the purpose of processing AI tasks that require graphics cards with a much larger memory capacity than the usual need for gaming or video graphics.

In short, the GDDR6X and GDDR6 memory used on these graphics cards is removed, and using different circuit boards, new memories are added and then folded to the graphical card circuit board.

As we reported before, modification or addition of memory on graphics cards is not an easy thing to do, as it needs to take into account various aspects such as voltage, the amount of electricity needed and also the location of this memory so that it is accessible to GPU components with efficient.

If you want to know how the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card is used for this customization, the renovation is reported to be using the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090D graphics card sold specifically for the Chinese market, and modifies the VRAM memory through the so-called steps.
