OpenAI Loses Another Founder Who Migrates to Anthropic

OpenAI lost John Schulman who was one of the founders of the company to their competitor Anthropic. Schulman's move comes a few months after Ilya Sutskever, who is also the company's founder and chief scientist, left OpenAI to establish Super Intelligence, which aims to develop safer artificial intelligence (AI).

Schulman previously held the position of head of pedagogy science at OpenAI making sure the AI it develops works as intended. He thanked the team at OpenAI and said he moved to Anthropic, which was founded by former OpenAI employees to focus more on the science of hawking.

With this only 3 of the 11 founders of OpenAI are still with the company namely Sam Altman, Greg Brockman and Wojciech Zaremba. In the same development, Brockman issued a statement through X that he is now taking a sabbatical until the end of the year to rest after 9 years with OpenAI.

The two surprise announcements within a day raised questions about OpenAI's internal issues since Sam Altman was ousted from the company at the end of 2023. He returned as CEO due to alleged lack of transparency with the board and security issues raised by Sutskever.

A mass exodus began after Altman returned with former staff saying they could not issue any negative statements against OpenAI if they wanted to keep the stake they received.
