Ricoh Launches Camera With Password That Locks Functions When Stolen

Theft of photographic equipment will cause losses of tens of thousands of ringgit as well as affect the photographer's ability to purchase replacement equipment. After being stolen it is easily sold because the equipment does not have anti-theft features like smart devices. Yesterday Ricoh launched the Ricoh G900 II and Ricoh G900SE II cameras that have passwords that make them impossible to use if stolen.

The Ricoh G900 II and Ricoh G900SE II are two rugged cameras designed for use on construction sites. With theft often occurring on construction sites, a password feature is included on the camera. The camera can only work after the password is entered. Owners can also lock some features on the camera behind a password. There is also an encryption system on the memory card to prevent content from being read without permission.

Because it is a camera for industrial use, it comes with features that can be updated by administrators using a WiFi network and also read QR codes. Another interesting feature is that notes can be placed on the picture which makes it easier to see what context is taken such as when on a construction site. The Ricoh G900 II and Ricoh G900SE II can also be used as webcams with live streaming support at 1080P 30p settings.

Both cameras have the ability to withstand dust and water as well as chemicals such as ethanol and corrosive industrial detergents. It can be taken to dive up to 20 meters, withstand the shock of falling from a height of 2.1 meters and withstand a weight of up to 100 kg. Both also use a 20MP sensor with the SE model coming with WiFi, bluetooth and NFC support features.

The Ricoh G900 II is sold at a price of $799.95 (~RM3533) one while the RICOH G900SE II at a price of $899.95 (~RM3975) one.
