The popular online game Roblox was banned by Turkiye yesterday. No reason has been given but there have previously been allegations of sexual parties organized within Roblox with children being given Robux virtual currency to participate. Because of the difficulty of filtering this kind of content, Turkiye banned Roblox completely.
The banning of Roblox caused millions of players to no longer be able to access it in Turkey. It comes less than a week after Turkey's Information and Communication Technology Authority (BTK) blocked access to Instagram. Action was taken after Instagram deleted content related to the death of Ismael Haniyeh, the head of Hamas's political bureau in Iran.
Only Instagram is blocked at this point with Facebook and WhatsApp still usable. This week the Meta platform became the topic of conversation with them apologizing to Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim after deleting two of his statuses on Facebook expressing condolences to Ismael Haniyeh's family. Both statuses were reinstated as the head of state was given leeway for public awareness.
