Safari iOS 18 Introduces New Feature to Block Pop-Up Ads

Through iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Developer Beta launched last month, another new feature that was not previously announced for Safari was introduced and it is called Distraction Control which can reduce distractions when browsing the web.

True to its name, this feature is designed to provide an uninterrupted web browsing experience through Safari. This feature works to prevent various elements that can disturb users when surfing the web in Safari such as pop-up ads, automatically playing videos, cookies and some other display interruptions.

However, this feature only works to hide static content on the website and does not work as a permanent ad blocker. This means, through it ads can be temporarily hidden and a different ad will reappear if the page is accessed again.

This Distraction Control setting can be done by clicking on the menu icon. Then select 'Hide Distancing Items'. Next you can directly click on the elements you want to hide such as pop-up ads and so on to remove them from the display.

Barriers to such display interruptions are seen as one of Apple's efforts to help users focus more on the main content of the website being accessed, improve productivity and at the same time be able to enjoy a more enjoyable reading experience. Later, this feature will also be given to Public Beta users.
