The majority of power consumption on a smartphone comes from the screen. The OLED panel used now is smarter in reducing battery consumption than LCD but still not enough to allow the phone to last more than a day on heavy use. Therefore Samsung has developed a new OLED panel that reduces power consumption by 50% compared to current OLED panels.
Through this new panel, the device can be used for at least a day before needing to be recharged. With a more power-efficient panel, devices with the same battery capacity can operate longer. We have reached the limits of battery technology that require other ways to extend battery life besides using processor chips that also reduce power consumption.
Samsung did not say when this new panel will start to be used on their output devices. But when it starts to be offered later, the issue will somewhat reduce the issue of why they still refuse to offer faster charging and instead focus on saving power consumption.
