What made me focus on photography skills with a smartphone and not a mirrorless camera is, with a camera I have to change lenses often and each different lens is quite heavy and difficult to carry anywhere. Smartphone cameras are just apps and all focal lengths can be mimicked digitally. Most recently, Samyang, a well-known camera accessory brand, is trying to solve the problem of photographers carrying multiple heavy and expensive lenses with the Remaster Slim.
The Remaster Slim is an interchangeable lens where, the photographer does not need to change the entire lens for different focal lengths. Instead, just change the optical element that is the lens glass only. The Remaster Slim is 0.8-inch thick and each optical element uses a magnetic connection. Three different optical elements are provided for different focal lengths are wide angle 21mm f/2.8, 28mm f/3.5, and 32mm f/3.5 for portrait photography with bokeh effect.
According to Samyang, Remaster Slim gives softer photographic results and gives the experience of using an analog camera with manual zoom control. The Remaster Slim is designed to support E-mount Sony cameras and is sold in South Korea at a price of KRW308,000 which is around RM1008.
