Some Google Pixels Reported to Have Dangerous Security Vulnerabilities

Google Pixel is a popular Android device. After years of waiting, the Pixel 9 series is finally available in Malaysia. Although the Pixel device has a Titan chip, runs stock Android from Google and comes complete with many AI features, the Pixel device reportedly has a serious security vulnerability.

According to iVerify's report, Pixel devices released since September 2017 and above have the Showcase.apk system application used by the telecommunications company Verizon to display demos in stores. It can receive files over an unencrypted HTTP connection that allows hackers to access the device to steal files or deliver malware.

iVerify reported it to Google last May. Google now says the app is no longer used by Verizon and will provide the update to all Pixels in just a few weeks. Because it is for Verizon, this issue most likely only affects devices purchased through Verizon in the United States.
