The Use Of Traumagel Is Now Allowed To Plug Gunshot Holes

During the Vietnam War, elephant glue was used to provide emergency treatment to soldiers who were injured on the battlefield. Started as an emergency treatment tool, elephant glue is now used to repair damage at home. Elephant glue sticks strong but it doesn't stop the internal bleeding. So gauze was stuffed into the gunshot hole by the paramedics. However it hurts and is still not effective enough.

Therefore Traumagel was developed by the Cresilon firm based in the United States. Traumagel is now approved by the FDA for use as an initial treatment for gunshot wounds. A gel made from algae and functional in the Traumagel syringe will be injected directly into the cavity of the shot hole.

Because it is in a semi-solid form, it will completely fill the wound cavity to stop the bleeding immediately. Excessive bleeding is one of the leading causes of death in gunshot victims in the United States.

Traumagel started out as Vetigel used by veterinarians. Then small tests are used to patch small wounds in humans. Only now is it finally allowed to be used to stop the bleeding of gunshot wounds in humans. With it now approved for use by emergency responders, Cresilon sees the potential for it to also be used by the military on the battlefield like elephant glue more than 50 years ago.
