Turkiye appears to have started blocking access to social media platform Instagram, according to a statement released by the infotech regulator. The statement announced today, however, did not specify the reason why the restrictions were made. In fact, it did not disclose the period of the restriction, which caused Meta's application to be completely inaccessible in Turkiye at this point.
However, there are parties who associate it with the comments made by Turkiye's communications director, Fahrettin Altun, who criticized the platform's actions in lowering and deleting content related to the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh yesterday.
The same thing also got the attention of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself who also expressed his regret at Meta's actions in downloading the video and his condolences to the Haniyeh family yesterday.
According to the terms and conditions of the US-based Meta platform, Hamas is categorized as a "dangerous organization" and therefore any content related to it is not allowed at all.
