Vernacular Model By Meta Has Been Downloaded Over 350 Million Times So Far

Meta is ready to offer a language model that powers an open source artificial intelligence model, named Llama. The latest version offered is Llama 3.1, which offers performance and capabilities on par with other competitors on the market such as OpenAI.

Touching on it, Meta recently shared that their language model has been downloaded more than 350 million times so far. The majority of downloads have been done this year, in fact over 20 million downloads have been done since the introduction of Llama 3.1 last month.

This offer simultaneously opens up the development of the artificial intelligence arena among the open source community, in addition to positioning Meta as one of the leading providers for artificial intelligence in the open source arena. It also indirectly allows various large and small companies to use their models in the development of their respective solutions – which without this offering might make development more difficult.

Meta's contribution has also indirectly led to various innovations and new developments in this arena, and Meta shares that they can't wait to see what new things are developed through this Llama.
