A few weeks ago there were rumors that Xiaomi wanted to introduce a new feature for HyperOS, where a click of a button will turn off all ads. The idea for this feature has been heard since 2019 and in the same year the idea of this button was also heard. Xiaomi recently issued a statement and confirmed that no button to turn off ads will be introduced.
Instead they promise that in the future their devices will only have fewer fat applications. This will be reflected in their new flagship devices. A button to turn off these ads will not be offered because according to them, only a small group will be aware of the existence of this button. They don't want to waste their software developers if a feature or function is not used by many.
This is a disappointing result. It makes no sense to display ads on devices purchased with the hard earned money of users. Xiaomi's statement explained fat applications are reduced on flagship devices, but in Malaysia many complain are users of mid-range devices. Hopefully Xiaomi will change its mind on this.
