Who among our readers still remember Acer smartphones under the Liquid series? Their first phone at that time used an Intel Atom chip and due to fierce competition, their smartphone market was discontinued. At IFA 2024, Jerry Kao, the COO of Acer Inc. and James K Lin, manager of the laptop division shared about Acer smartphones.
According to Jerry, with current technology and development costs producing a smartphone is not impossible. With consumers of non-Apple products already beginning to embrace the ecosystem concept of using one brand for multiple products, the idea of bringing back smartphones is appealing.
It's just that, with the smartphone market still having fierce competition, Jerry said who knows the future will change but for now in the near future Acer still hasn't found useful value to offer smartphones to users. If they want to offer, Acer doesn't want to just enter the market to fight on selling prices with competitors.
