AMD is expected to introduce their AMD Radeon RX 8000 series of graphics cards soon, and in an interview with Tom's Hardware, has revealed a little about the company's marketing strategy when it comes to their graphics card offerings.
According to Jack Huynh, Vice President and General Manager of the Computing and Graphics Business Group at AMD, his job with AMD's graphics processor offerings is to gain a higher share of the graphics component market, as opposed to NVIDIA's pursuit of the most powerful graphics card throne.
AMD has tried that tactic before, but Jack Huynh honestly says it never worked out well for them. Because of this, they have shifted their focus to developing affordable and good middle class products that can be enjoyed and benefited by more segments of society.
In the graphics processing chip sector AMD is seen powering two of the most popular video game consoles right now, namely the Sony PlayStation 5 as well as the Microsoft Xbox Series X and Series S. This is also considered a success as to how a large number of the global gaming sector is powered by offerings from AMD.
This doesn't even include portable PC consoles like the ASUS ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go and the recently announced Acer Nitro Blaze 7 that use AMD Ryzen processing chips to power them.
Focusing on the production of mid-range and affordable graphics processor components does not mean that AMD will leave the premium graphics card market. Jack Huynh says that while this is their focus for now, in the future as their graphics offerings mature further, it wouldn't be a surprise to see AMD again compete with NVIDIA for the throne of premium graphics cards with the best performance.
